Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Al-Hajjaj Family is a private app built for one specific family to create and preserve a shared family tree. We respect your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we protect it.

2. Data We Collect

• Phone number: used to verify your identity and log in via a one-time code (OTP). Regular users do not need an email address.
• Profile information: full name, occupation (optional), short bio (optional), birth year and, where applicable, year of death.
• Family relationship data: kinship links, parents, spouses, and children, used to build the family tree.
• Photos: profile photos uploaded by users or on behalf of family members.
• Usage data: login records and your interactions with the tree, articles, and news sections within the app.

3. Data About Minor Family Members

Given the nature of a family tree, an adult family member may add information (such as a name, birth year, and photo) for a child who is a minor, as a member of the tree. This information is entered by a parent or an adult family member, not by the child. No one under the age of 13 is permitted to create an account or use the app directly.

4. Sharing Data with Third Parties

We use trusted service providers to operate the app:

• Supabase: for database and photo storage.
• Twilio: for sending verification codes (OTP) via SMS.

We do not sell your data to any third party for marketing purposes.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account remains active. Upon account deletion, your personal data is deleted within 30 days of confirmed deletion, except where retention is required by law.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to: access your data, correct it, request full deletion (see the Delete Account page), or restrict the visibility of certain data (such as phone number or occupation) from other members via in-app privacy settings.

7. Security

We use encryption in transit and strict database-level access policies (Row-Level Security) to protect your data from unauthorized access.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page along with an updated revision date.
